Ingredients

  • 1 large Red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup Apple cider vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • Optional flavorings:
    • 1 clove Garlic (smashed)
    • ½ teaspoon Black peppercorns
    • 1 bay leaf

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the onions

  • Peel and thinly slice the red onion.
  • Place them in a clean jar or heat-safe container.

2️⃣ Make the pickling liquid

  • In a small saucepan, combine vinegar, water, sugar, and salt.
  • Heat over medium until the sugar and salt dissolve.

3️⃣ Combine and soak

  • Pour the hot pickling liquid over the sliced onions, making sure they are fully submerged.
  • Let it cool to room temperature, then cover with a lid.

4️⃣ Chill

  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before using.
