Here’s a colorful and hearty Seven Layer Taco Salad recipe—perfect for parties, meal prep, or a fun family dinner.


Ingredients (Serves 6–8)

For the salad layers:

  1. Refried beans – 1 can (15 oz)
  2. Taco seasoning – 1 packet (or 2 tsp homemade seasoning)
  3. Ground beef or turkey – 1 lb (optional, can skip for vegetarian version)
  4. Sour cream – 1 cup
  5. Guacamole – ½ cup
  6. Shredded lettuce – 3 cups
  7. Shredded cheese – 1–1½ cups (cheddar, Mexican blend, or your choice)
  8. Diced tomatoes – 1 cup
  9. Sliced black olives – ¼ cup
  10. Green onions or cilantro – 2 tbsp, chopped
  11. Tortilla chips – for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the meat (if using):
    • In a skillet, cook ground beef or turkey over medium heat until browned.
    • Drain excess fat and stir in taco seasoning with 2–3 tbsp water. Simmer for 2–3 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the refried beans:
    • Heat beans in a small pan or microwave. Optional: stir in a little taco seasoning for extra flavor.
  3. Layer the salad:
    • In a large shallow bowl or 9×13-inch dish, layer ingredients in the following order:
      1. Refried beans (spread evenly)
      2. Cooked taco meat
      3. Sour cream
      4. Guacamole
      5. Shredded lettuce
      6. Shredded cheese
      7. Diced tomatoes, olives, and green onions/cilantro
  4. Serve:
    • Serve with tortilla chips for scooping.
    • Optional: drizzle with salsa or taco sauce.

  • Make it vegetarian by skipping meat and adding black beans or corn.
  • Prepare ahead of time, but add tortilla chips just before serving to keep them crunchy.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle a little lime juice over the guacamole layer.
