Here’s how to clean dirty bed pillows to leave them white and smelling sweet.

Nice—this one’s actually useful (and not a trap 😄). Here’s a simple, effective way to get your pillows clean, white, and fresh-smelling:

🧼 For Washing Machine–Safe Pillows (cotton, polyester, down)

1. Check the label first

Make sure your pillow is machine washable.

2. Pre-treat stains

  • Mix a little detergent with water or baking soda paste
  • Gently rub on yellow spots or sweat stains

3. Wash properly

  • Use warm water
  • Add:
    • Regular detergent
    • ½ cup baking soda (for deodorizing)

Run a normal cycle.

4. Extra rinse + vinegar

  • Add ½–1 cup white vinegar in the rinse cycle
  • This removes odors and detergent residue

5. Dry thoroughly

  • Use a dryer on low heat
  • Add clean tennis balls or dryer balls to fluff them
  • Make sure they are completely dry (to prevent mildew)

☀️ Natural Whitening Boost

After washing, put pillows in direct sunlight.
Sunlight helps:

  • Kill bacteria
  • Naturally whiten fabric
  • Leave a fresh smell

🚫 For Memory Foam Pillows

Don’t put them in the washing machine.

Instead:

  • Vacuum the surface
  • Spot clean with mild detergent
  • Sprinkle baking soda, leave for a few hours, then vacuum
  • Air dry completely

🛏️ Pro tip

Wash pillows every 3–6 months and use pillow protectors to keep them cleaner longer.

If you want, I can tailor this to the kind of pillow you have (foam, feather, local brands, etc.).
