There isn’t actually a single “must-unplug-at-all-costs” kitchen appliance—but if one deserves extra caution, it’s the toaster or toaster oven.
They’re risky because:
- Crumbs and grease can build up and catch fire
- Heating elements are exposed
- Some cheaper or older models can malfunction or not fully shut off
That said, modern appliances are generally designed to be safe when left plugged in. A better rule is:
- Unplug appliances that heat up (toaster, air fryer, kettle) if they’re old, faulty, or heavily used
- Keep them clean (especially removing crumbs/grease)
- Never leave them running unattended
So it’s less about one specific appliance—and more about how safely you use and maintain them.
