Slow Cooker Cabbage, Potatoes, and Smoked Sausage

Posted on April 4, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a hearty and easy slow cooker recipe for Cabbage, Potatoes, and Smoked Sausage—perfect for a cozy, hands-off meal.

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped into wedges
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3–4 smoked sausages (like kielbasa), sliced into 1-inch pieces
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • Optional: red pepper flakes for a little heat

Instructions

1. Prepare Ingredients

  • Chop cabbage, potatoes, and onion.
  • Slice smoked sausage and set aside.

2. Layer in Slow Cooker

  • Drizzle olive oil (or butter) at the bottom.
  • Add potatoes first, then onions, garlic, and cabbage.
  • Top with sliced sausage.

3. Season and Add Broth

  • Sprinkle paprika, thyme, salt, and black pepper over the ingredients.
  • Pour chicken or vegetable broth over everything.

4. Cook

  • Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until potatoes are tender and cabbage is soft.

5. Serve

  • Stir gently to combine flavors.
  • Optional: garnish with fresh parsley or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
  • Serve hot with crusty bread or over rice.

💡 Tips

  • For extra flavor, sear the sausage in a skillet for 2–3 minutes before adding to the slow cooker.
  • Add carrots or bell peppers for extra color and nutrients.
  • Leftovers taste even better the next day as flavors meld.

If you want, I can also give a one-pot stovetop version of this dish that cooks in under 45 minutes but still gets tender and flavorful.

Do you want me to do that?
