🍩 Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins

Ingredients (makes 10–12 muffins)

For the muffins

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (key for donut flavor!)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter or oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the topping

  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

1. Preheat oven

  • Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a muffin tin or line with paper liners.

2. Mix dry ingredients

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.

3. Mix wet ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla.

4. Combine

  • Pour wet ingredients into dry and mix until just combined (don’t overmix).

5. Fill and bake

  • Divide batter evenly into muffin cups (about 3/4 full).
  • Bake for 18–20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.

6. Add cinnamon sugar coating

  • Let muffins cool slightly (still warm is best).
  • Brush each muffin with melted butter.
  • Roll or sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.

Tips

  • Don’t skip nutmeg—it gives that classic donut taste.
  • Coat muffins while warm so sugar sticks better.
  • For extra indulgence, fill with jam or chocolate inside.
