Here’s a classic basic pound cake—rich, buttery, and simple to make with just a few ingredients.


🧈 Ingredients

  • 1 cup (225 g) butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder (optional, for a slightly lighter texture)
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2–3 tbsp milk (if needed for smooth batter)

🔥 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    170°C (325°F). Grease and line a loaf pan.
  2. Cream butter & sugar
    Beat until light, fluffy, and pale—this step builds the cake’s texture.
  3. Add eggs
    Add one at a time, mixing well after each.
  4. Mix dry ingredients
    In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Combine
    Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
    Stir in vanilla. Add milk if batter feels too thick.
  6. Bake
    Pour into pan and smooth the top.
    Bake 50–65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool
    Let it rest in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
