Here’s a simple and delicious way to cook chicken breasts with a stick of butter on top—rich, flavorful, and juicy. This is sometimes called a “butter-baked chicken” method.


Butter-Topped Baked Chicken Breasts

(Serves 2–4)

Ingredients

  • 2–4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 stick (½ cup / 113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, or parsley), chopped
  • Lemon slices (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Lightly grease a baking dish.

2. Prepare Butter Mixture

  1. In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and herbs.
  2. You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice for brightness.

3. Prepare Chicken

  1. Pat chicken breasts dry with paper towels.
  2. Place them in the baking dish.
  3. Spread the butter mixture evenly on top of each breast. You can also lay slices of butter directly on top if you prefer.

4. Bake

  • Cover with foil and bake 25–30 minutes (depending on thickness) until chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) internal temperature.
  • Remove foil and bake another 5–10 minutes for golden, slightly crisp top.

5. Serve

  • Spoon melted butter and herbs from the pan over the chicken.
  • Serve with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a simple salad.

Tips

  • Juicy chicken: Don’t overbake; check temperature with a meat thermometer.
  • Flavor variations: Add Dijon mustard, honey, or spices to the butter for different profiles.
  • Extra crispy: Broil for 1–2 minutes at the end to get a lightly golden top.
