Posted on February 10, 2026 by Admin

Ohhh, classic comfort food coming right up πŸ˜ŒπŸ„
Here’s a Homestyle Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravyβ€”tender patties, rich brown gravy, and that cozy diner-style flavor.

Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy

Ingredients (Serves 4)

Salisbury Steaks

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 works best)
  • β…“ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Β½ tsp salt
  • Β½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp oil (for frying)

Mushroom Gravy

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Make the Patties

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Shape into 4 oval patties.

2. Brown the Steaks

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned.
  3. Remove patties from skillet and set aside (they’ll finish cooking in the gravy).

3. Make the Mushroom Gravy

  1. In the same skillet, melt butter.
  2. Add mushrooms and cook until softened and browned (5–6 minutes).
  3. Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir for 1 minute.
  4. Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Simmer until thickened, about 3–4 minutes.

4. Simmer Together

  1. Return patties to the skillet.
  2. Spoon gravy over them.
  3. Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until patties are fully cooked and tender.

  • Green beans or peas πŸ«›

Tips for Extra Flavor

  • Use ground beef + ground pork (half and half) for extra tenderness.
  • Add a splash of heavy cream to the gravy for a richer finish.
  • A pinch of thyme or onion powder boosts that old-school diner flavor.

If you want, I can also share:

  • A slow cooker Salisbury steak version
  • A creamier onion gravy twist
  • Or a budget-friendly version using frozen patties
