Sweet Potato Pie

Posted on February 12, 2026 by Admin

Absolutely! Here’s a classic Southern-style Sweet Potato Pie — creamy, spiced, and perfect for dessert.

🍠 Sweet Potato Pie

Serves: 6–8

Prep + Cook Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

For the Crust (or use store-bought)

  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3–4 tablespoons cold water

For the Filling

  • 2 cups mashed cooked sweet potatoes (about 2–3 medium sweet potatoes)
  • ¾ cup sugar (brown sugar adds extra flavor)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk (or evaporated milk for creamier texture)
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Crust

  1. In a bowl, mix flour and salt.
  2. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add cold water 1 tablespoon at a time until dough comes together.
  4. Roll out and line a 9-inch pie pan. Chill while preparing filling.

2️⃣ Prepare Sweet Potatoes

  1. Peel and boil or roast sweet potatoes until soft.
  2. Mash until smooth, then let cool slightly.

3️⃣ Make the Filling

  1. In a large bowl, mix mashed sweet potatoes, sugar, eggs, milk, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt until smooth.

4️⃣ Assemble Pie

  1. Pour filling into prepared pie crust.
  2. Smooth the top with a spatula.

5️⃣ Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake 50–60 minutes, until filling is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. If crust edges brown too fast, cover with foil halfway through baking.

6️⃣ Cool & Serve

  • Let pie cool at least 1 hour before slicing.
  • Serve with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

✅ Tips & Variations

  • Maple Sweetener: Substitute part of the sugar with maple syrup for extra depth.
  • Spice Mix: Adjust cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger to taste.
  • Ginger or Orange Twist: Add 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger or a teaspoon of orange zest for unique flavor.
  • Mini Pies: Make individual pies using tart pans for portion control.

If you want, I can also give a “quick no-boil version” using canned sweet potatoes that’s ready in under 40 minutes — perfect if you’re short on time.

Do you want me to do that?
