Crispy fried cauliflower

Posted on February 12, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a crispy fried cauliflower recipe that’s crunchy on the outside, tender inside, and seriously addictive. I’ll give you the classic deep-fried version plus an air fryer option.

🥦 Crispy Fried Cauliflower

Serves: 3–4

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head cauliflower, cut into bite-size florets
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾–1 cup cold water (or milk)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Oil for frying

Optional for extra crunch:

  • ½ cup cornstarch (replace part of flour)
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs (for coating after batter)

Step 1: Prepare the Batter

In a bowl, whisk together:

  • Flour
  • Garlic powder
  • Paprika
  • Onion powder
  • Salt & pepper

Slowly add cold water until you get a thick pancake-like batter (not too runny).

Tip: Cold water helps make it crispier.

Step 2: Heat the Oil

Heat oil in a deep pan to 350–375°F (175–190°C).
If you don’t have a thermometer, drop a little batter in — it should sizzle immediately.

Step 3: Coat & Fry

  1. Dip cauliflower florets into the batter.
  2. Let excess drip off.
  3. Carefully place into hot oil.
  4. Fry 3–5 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove and drain on paper towels.

For extra crispy texture:
After dipping in batter, roll in panko before frying.

🔥 Air Fryer Version (Less Oil)

  1. Dip florets in batter.
  2. Lightly spray with oil.
  3. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway.
  4. Spray again halfway for extra crispiness.

Optional Flavor Ideas

  • Toss in buffalo sauce for buffalo cauliflower
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan & parsley
  • Add chili flakes for heat
  • Drizzle with honey garlic sauce

If you’d like, I can also give you a crispy spicy Korean-style version or a healthy baked no-batter version.
