My neighbor taught me this trick to clean green algae off siding with 0 effort. Here’s how it works

Ah, that’s one of those quick “algae removal hacks”! Here’s a safe and effective way to clean green algae off siding without scrubbing too much:

🧽 Effortless Green Algae Cleaning Trick

What You’ll Need

  • 1 part white vinegar (or distilled household vinegar)
  • 1 part water
  • Spray bottle
  • Optional: garden hose

Steps

1️⃣ Mix Solution

  • Combine equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
  • For stubborn algae, you can use undiluted vinegar.

2️⃣ Spray the Siding

  • Generously spray the algae-covered areas.
  • Make sure the siding is dry and not in direct hot sun (to prevent streaks).

3️⃣ Let It Sit

  • Wait 15–30 minutes. Vinegar naturally kills algae.
  • For tough growth, leave up to 1 hour.

4️⃣ Rinse Off

  • Use a garden hose to rinse the siding from top to bottom.
  • No scrubbing needed in most cases.

Optional Tips

  • For really stubborn patches, sprinkle a little baking soda on the algae after spraying vinegar, then rinse.
  • Regular maintenance: Spray once every few months to prevent regrowth.
  • Avoid using bleach too often — it can damage plants nearby and siding paint over time.

💡 Why This Works:
Vinegar is acidic and naturally kills algae and moss without harsh chemicals, and letting it sit allows it to penetrate the algae before rinsing.

If you want, I can also give you a “year-round zero-effort algae prevention routine” so your siding stays clean without scrubbing at all.

Do you want me to do that?
