carob pods,

Posted on February 13, 2026 by Admin

Carob pods are naturally sweet and can be used like cocoa but without caffeine or the bitterness of chocolate. Here’s a simple way to turn them into a carob powder and a quick recipe using it.

How to Prepare Carob Powder from Pods

  1. Clean the pods – Rinse carob pods to remove dust.
  2. Dry them – Air-dry or oven-dry at a low temperature (~120 °C / 250 °F) until completely dry and brittle.
  3. Remove seeds – Split the pods and take out the seeds (you can save seeds for planting or making carob syrup).
  4. Grind the pods – Use a coffee grinder, food processor, or spice mill to grind the pods into a fine powder. This is your homemade carob powder.

Simple Carob Dessert Recipe: Carob Cocoa Drink

Ingredients (serves 2):

  • 2 tbsp carob powder
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 1–2 tsp sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or sugar)
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the carob powder and sweetener until smooth.
  3. Add vanilla if using.
  4. Pour into mugs and enjoy warm.

Carob can also be used in baking, smoothies, or energy bars as a chocolate substitute.

If you want, I can give a more advanced recipe like carob brownies or carob syrup from pods that really makes the pods shine. Do you want me to do that?
