Here’s a rich, hearty beef spaghetti sauce that tastes like it simmered all day 🍝🔥


🍝 Classic Beef Spaghetti Sauce

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, balances acidity)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp dried thyme (optional)
  • ½–1 tsp salt (to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ¼ cup water or beef broth

Optional upgrades:

  • ½ cup grated carrot (adds natural sweetness)
  • ¼ cup red wine (adds depth)
  • Fresh parsley or basil for garnish

🔥 Instructions

1️⃣ Brown the Beef

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add onion and cook 3–4 minutes until soft.
  • Add garlic; cook 30 seconds.
  • Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.

2️⃣ Build Flavor

  • Stir in tomato paste; cook 1–2 minutes to deepen flavor.
  • (Optional) Add red wine and simmer 2–3 minutes.

3️⃣ Add Tomatoes & Seasoning

  • Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, and seasonings.
  • Stir well.

4️⃣ Simmer

  • Reduce heat to low.
  • Cover partially and simmer 20–40 minutes (longer = richer flavor).
  • Stir occasionally.

If sauce gets too thick, add a splash of water.


🍝 Serve With

  • Cooked spaghetti (salt your pasta water well)
  • Fresh grated parmesan
  • A drizzle of olive oil
