Here’s how to make a perfect cooked bowl of white rice — fluffy, tender, and not sticky (unless you want it that way).


🍚 Basic White Rice (Stovetop Method)

🛒 Ingredients (2–3 servings)

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups water
  • ½ teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon butter or oil (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Rinse the Rice

Place rice in a bowl and rinse under cold water until the water runs mostly clear.
(This removes excess starch and keeps it fluffy.)

2️⃣ Boil

In a saucepan, bring water, salt, and butter/oil to a boil.

3️⃣ Simmer

Add rice, stir once, reduce heat to low, cover with a tight lid.
Simmer 15–18 minutes.

4️⃣ Rest

Turn off heat and let sit (covered) for 5–10 minutes.
Do not lift the lid while resting.

5️⃣ Fluff

Use a fork to gently fluff before serving.


📏 Rice-to-Water Ratio Guide

  • Long-grain white rice → 1 cup rice : 2 cups water
  • Jasmine rice → 1 : 1¾ cups water
  • Basmati rice → 1 : 1½–1¾ cups water

🍽️ Ways to Upgrade Your Bowl

  • Stir in a squeeze of lemon and chopped parsley
  • Add a spoon of soy sauce and sesame oil
  • Mix with sautéed garlic and butter
  • Top with a fried egg
