Posted on February 26, 2026 by Admin

Keeping pillows clean makes a big difference in sleep quality and allergies 🛏️✨
Here’s how to get bed pillows white, fresh, and odor-free safely.

🧼 How to Wash Bed Pillows (Machine Method)

✅ First: Check the Tag

Most polyester and down pillows are machine washable.
Memory foam pillows are NOT — they must be spot cleaned only.

🌀 For Washer-Safe Pillows

🛒 What You’ll Need:

  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • Mild laundry detergent
  • Optional: ½ cup hydrogen peroxide (for whitening white pillows)

🔹 Step-by-Step

1️⃣ Load Two Pillows at Once
Balances the washer.

2️⃣ Use Hot Water (if care label allows)
Helps kill dust mites and bacteria.

3️⃣ Add Cleaning Boosters

  • Detergent as usual
  • Baking soda directly in the drum
  • Vinegar in the fabric softener compartment
  • For extra whitening: hydrogen peroxide in the bleach dispenser (whites only)

4️⃣ Extra Rinse Cycle
Removes residue completely.

5️⃣ Dry Thoroughly

  • Tumble dry on low heat
  • Add clean tennis balls or dryer balls to fluff
  • Make sure completely dry to prevent mildew

🌿 For Memory Foam Pillows (No Machine Washing)

1️⃣ Vacuum thoroughly.
2️⃣ Spot clean with mild soap and damp cloth.
3️⃣ Sprinkle baking soda over surface.
4️⃣ Let sit 1–2 hours to absorb odors.
5️⃣ Vacuum again.
6️⃣ Air dry completely.

💡 Extra Whitening Trick (For Yellow Stains)

Mix:

  • ½ cup hydrogen peroxide
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • A few drops dish soap

Apply to stains, let sit 30 minutes, then wash.

📅 How Often to Wash Pillows

  • Every 3–6 months
  • Use pillow protectors to extend freshness

🚨 When to Replace

  • If pillow stays lumpy
  • Has persistent odor
  • Is more than 1–2 years old
