Apple pie

Here’s a classic, comforting apple pie recipe with a flaky crust and perfectly spiced filling:

🥧 Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients (serves 6–8)

For the crust

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (225 g) cold butter, cubed
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

(Or use store-bought pie crust for convenience.)

For the filling

  • 5–6 apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or any firm variety), peeled and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour or cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Make the dough

  • In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
  • Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  • Add ice water gradually until dough forms.
  • Divide into two discs, wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.

2. Prepare the filling

  • In a large bowl, mix sliced apples with sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla.
  • Toss until evenly coated.

3. Assemble the pie

  • Roll out one dough disc and place it into a pie dish.
  • Add the apple filling.
  • Roll out the second dough and place it on top (or cut into strips for a lattice design).
  • Seal and crimp the edges. Cut small slits if using a full top crust.

4. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 45–55 minutes until the crust is golden and filling is bubbly.

5. Cool and serve

  • Let the pie cool for at least 1–2 hours before slicing (this helps the filling set).
  • Serve warm—optionally with vanilla ice cream.

Tips

  • Mix tart and sweet apples for the best flavor.
  • Brush the crust with egg wash + sprinkle sugar for a golden, crispy top.
  • If edges brown too fast, cover with foil.
