Ingredients (serves 3–4)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or thinly sliced beef
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white, jasmine, or brown)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 bell peppers (any color), sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced (optional)

For the sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional but recommended)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (for thickening)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

1. Cook the beef

  • Heat oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add beef and cook until browned. Remove excess fat if needed.

2. Sauté vegetables

  • Add onion and bell peppers to the pan.
  • Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.
  • Add garlic and ginger; cook for 30 seconds.

3. Make the sauce

  • In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, broth, cornstarch, black pepper, and sesame oil.

4. Combine

  • Pour the sauce into the pan and stir well.
  • Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until thickened and glossy.

5. Assemble bowls

  • Spoon rice into bowls.
  • Top with beef and pepper mixture.

Optional toppings

  • Chopped green onions
  • Sesame seeds
  • Fried egg
  • Chili flakes or hot sauce

Tips

  • Use leftover rice for best texture.
  • Swap beef with chicken or tofu if you prefer.
