🧀🌿 Cheesy Asparagus Casserole (Recipe)

🧾 Ingredients (serves 3–4)

  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus, trimmed

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 2–3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • ¼ tsp paprika (optional)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (optional topping)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare asparagus

  • Wash and trim woody ends
  • Lightly steam or boil for 3–4 minutes (just until slightly tender)
  • Place in a greased baking dish

2. Make cheese sauce

  • Melt butter in a pan
  • Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds
  • Stir in flour and cook 1 minute (forms a paste)
  • Slowly add milk while whisking
  • Cook until thick and smooth
  • Add cheese, salt, pepper, and paprika
  • Stir until melted and creamy

3. Assemble

  • Pour cheese sauce evenly over asparagus
  • Sprinkle breadcrumbs and a little extra cheese on top (optional)

4. Bake

  • Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 15–20 minutes
  • Top should be golden and bubbly
