Creamed peas on toast is a simple, comforting dish made with green peas in a creamy sauce served over toasted bread. Here’s an easy recipe.

Creamed Peas on Toast

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Green Peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose Flour
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 4 slices Toast
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • Optional: a pinch of sugar or chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Cook the peas
    • Boil the green peas in lightly salted water for about 3–5 minutes until tender.
    • Drain and set aside.
  2. Make the cream sauce
    • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
    • Stir in flour and cook for about 1 minute to make a smooth paste (roux).
  3. Add the milk
    • Slowly pour in milk while whisking to avoid lumps.
    • Cook until the sauce thickens.
  4. Add the peas
    • Stir the cooked peas into the sauce.
    • Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
  5. Serve
    • Spoon the creamy peas over hot toasted bread.

Optional Add-Ins

  • Cooked Bacon bits
  • A little Cheddar Cheese
  • Sautéed Mushroom

🍽️ Tip: For extra flavor, sprinkle a little paprika or fresh herbs on top before serving.
