For the coating:

  • 1 ½ cups All-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

For frying:

  • Vegetable oil (enough to deep-fry or shallow-fry in a pan)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Marinate the Chicken

  1. Mix buttermilk, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder in a bowl
  2. Submerge chicken in the marinade
  3. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours, ideally overnight

2. Prepare the Coating

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, pepper, paprika, and cayenne
  2. Set aside

3. Coat the Chicken

  1. Remove chicken from marinade, letting excess drip off
  2. Dredge thoroughly in the flour mixture
  3. Press lightly to make the coating stick

4. Fry the Chicken

Option A – Deep Fry:

  • Heat oil in a deep pan to 175°C (350°F)

Option B – Shallow Fry:

  • Heat ½ inch oil in a skillet over medium heat
  • Cook 10–12 minutes per side, flipping carefully
  • Cover with lid for 2–3 minutes to cook through if needed

5. Drain & Serve

  • Place on paper towels to remove excess oil
  • Serve hot with dipping sauces, coleslaw, or fries

🔥 Tips for Extra Crispy Chicken

  • Use bone-in, skin-on pieces for juicier meat
  • Double dredge: dip in flour → back in marinade → flour again for crunchier coating
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan; cook in batches to maintain oil temperature
