  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (more if needed)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2–3 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (parsley, chives, or dill, optional)
  • 3–4 tablespoons vegetable oil or butter for frying

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Mixture

  1. In a large bowl, combine:
    • Mashed potatoes
    • Chopped onion
    • Cheese (if using)
    • Egg
    • Herbs
    • Salt & pepper
  2. Gradually add flour until the mixture holds together but isn’t too dry.

2️⃣ Form the Cakes

  • Take a handful of potato mixture and shape into small patties, about 2–3 inches wide and ½ inch thick.

3️⃣ Fry the Cakes

  1. Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Fry patties 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

4️⃣ Serve

  • Serve hot with:
    • Sour cream or yogurt
