Fried Catfish with Red Beans & Rice

Here’s a comforting Southern-style recipe for Fried Catfish with Red Beans & Rice—crispy fish served with flavorful beans and fluffy rice. 🍽️🐟


Ingredients

For the Fried Catfish

  • 4 fillets Catfish
  • 1 cup Cornmeal
  • ½ cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Egg
  • Oil for frying (such as Vegetable oil)

For the Red Beans

  • 2 cups cooked Red kidney beans
  • 1 small Onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Rice

  • 2 cups cooked White rice

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the beans

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan.
  2. Sauté onion and garlic until soft and fragrant.
  3. Add the red kidney beans, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer for 10–15 minutes so the flavors blend.

2️⃣ Cook the rice

Prepare white rice according to package directions and keep warm.


3️⃣ Prepare the catfish

  1. In a bowl mix cornmeal, flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Beat the egg in another bowl.
  3. Dip each catfish fillet into the egg, then coat in the cornmeal mixture.

4️⃣ Fry the fish

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Fry the coated catfish fillets for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Drain on paper towels.

5️⃣ Serve

Plate the fried catfish alongside red beans over rice. You can add lemon wedges or hot sauce if desired.
