🥘 Homestyle Ground Beef Casserole

Ingredients (serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 2 cups cooked pasta (elbow macaroni, penne, or rotini)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14–15 oz / 400 g) diced tomatoes (drained)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or mozzarella)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

1. Cook the pasta

  • Boil pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2. Cook the beef

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  • Drain excess fat if needed.

3. Add flavor

  • Stir in onion and garlic; cook 2–3 minutes until soft.
  • Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer for 5–7 minutes.

4. Combine

  • Turn off heat and stir in sour cream.
  • Add cooked pasta and mix until well combined.

5. Assemble casserole

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish.
  • Sprinkle cheddar and Parmesan cheese evenly on top.

6. Bake

  • Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.

7. Serve

  • Let it cool slightly, then serve warm.

Tips

  • Add veggies like bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach for extra nutrition.
  • Swap sour cream with cream cheese for a richer texture.
  • Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top for a crispy crust.
