Here’s a tasty Kolache Cookies recipe—a soft, slightly sweet cookie with a dollop of fruit jam in the center, inspired by traditional Czech kolaches:


Ingredients

For the cookies:

  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup (135 g) sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups (280 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt

For the filling:

  • ½ cup fruit jam (apricot, raspberry, or your favorite)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the dough:
    • Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
    • In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Shape the cookies:
    • Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on prepared baking sheet.
    • Press a small indentation in the center of each ball (using your thumb or a spoon).
  4. Add the filling:
    • Spoon about ½ tsp of jam into each indentation.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
    • Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  6. Optional:
    • Dust with powdered sugar once cooled for a sweet finishing touch.

  • Use a firm jam so it doesn’t spread too much while baking.
