Posted on February 22, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and delicious Mushroom & Swiss Burger Foil Packets recipe — perfect for the grill, oven, or even camping. Juicy burgers, sautéed mushrooms, and melted Swiss cheese, all cooked together for maximum flavor.

🍔 Mushroom & Swiss Burger Foil Packets

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 2–4)

For the burgers:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

For the mushrooms & veggies:

  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Other ingredients:

  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2–4 burger buns (optional, serve on the side or toast in foil)
  • Fresh parsley or thyme for garnish (optional)

Foil & assembly:

  • 4 large pieces of aluminum foil (one per burger or 2 per packet for sharing)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the burgers

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Form into 4 evenly sized patties.

2. Cook the mushrooms & onions

  1. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Sauté mushrooms and onions until soft and golden (~5–7 minutes). Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  3. Remove from heat.

3. Assemble the foil packets

  1. Place each burger patty in the center of a large piece of foil.
  2. Top with sautéed mushrooms and onions.
  3. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on top of each burger.
  4. Fold the foil around the burger to make a sealed packet.

4. Cook

  • Grill method: Preheat grill to medium-high. Place packets on the grill for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Oven method: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake packets on a baking sheet for 15–20 minutes.
  • Campfire method: Place packets on hot coals for 10–15 minutes, rotating occasionally.

5. Serve

  • Carefully open foil (steam will escape!) and serve burgers on buns or on their own.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley or thyme if desired.

⭐ Tips & Variations

  • Add a slice of crispy bacon in the packet for extra flavor.
  • For a cheesier version, mix Swiss with cheddar or Gruyère.
  • You can throw in sliced bell peppers or zucchini for extra veggies.
  • Use parchment paper inside foil for easier cleanup.

If you want, I can also give a one-pan skillet version that mimics the foil packet style without needing aluminum foil — quicker for weeknight dinners.
