Posted on April 11, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic comfort-food favorite—Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy—juicy beef patties smothered in a rich, savory onion sauce.

🍽️ Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

🧂 Ingredients

For the steaks

  • 500 g ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

For the onion gravy

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp soy sauce (optional for depth)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

🍳 Instructions

1. Make the patties

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper
  • Form into oval-shaped patties (like thick steaks)

2. Brown the steaks

  • Heat a pan over medium heat with a little oil
  • Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned
  • Remove and set aside (they’ll finish cooking later)

3. Cook the onions

  • In the same pan, melt butter
  • Add sliced onions and cook slowly until soft and caramelized (about 10–15 minutes)

4. Make the gravy

  • Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1–2 minutes
  • Slowly add beef broth while stirring
  • Add Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce
  • Simmer until thickened

5. Finish cooking

  • Return patties to the pan
  • Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and tender

6. Serve

  • Spoon onion gravy over the steaks
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables

🔥 Tips for best flavor

  • Don’t rush the onions—slow cooking builds sweetness
  • Add a splash of cream or butter at the end for richer gravy
  • Let patties rest a few minutes before serving

😋 Result

Tender, juicy beef “steaks” coated in rich onion gravy—classic, hearty, and satisfying.
