Here’s a classic, hearty Shepherd’s Pie recipe—rich, comforting, and perfect for a family meal 🥧🍖

🥧 Shepherd’s Pie

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

For the filling:

  • 500g Ground lamb (can substitute beef for Cottage Pie)
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme or rosemary
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

For the mashed potato topping:

  • 4 large Potatoes
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup milk (or cream for extra richness)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare Mashed Potatoes

  1. Peel and boil potatoes until tender (15–20 min)
  2. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper
  3. Set aside

2. Cook the Filling

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat
  2. Sauté onions and garlic until soft
  3. Add ground lamb and cook until browned
  4. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, broth, and thyme
  5. Add peas and carrots, simmer 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened
  6. Season with salt and pepper

3. Assemble the Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F)
  2. Spread meat filling evenly in a baking dish
  3. Top with mashed potatoes, spreading evenly
  4. Optional: sprinkle cheddar cheese on top
  5. Use a fork to make light ridges for a golden finish

4. Bake

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes until top is golden and edges bubble
  • Let sit 5 minutes before serving

🔥 Tips

  • For extra flavor, sauté the potatoes with a bit of garlic before mashing
  • Make ahead: assemble and refrigerate, then bake when ready
  • Use a fork to create peaks in the potato for a crispier top

If you want, I can also give a lighter, lower-fat version using cauliflower mash instead of potatoes—still creamy and delicious.

Do you want me to do that?
