Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1 ½ lbs (700 g) beef sirloin or flank steak, sliced into thin strips
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (additional for sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • Cooked rice for serving

Instructions

1. Prepare the beef

  1. In a bowl, toss beef strips with 2 tablespoons soy sauce and 1 tablespoon cornstarch until coated.
  2. Optional: Sear beef in a skillet with vegetable oil for 1–2 minutes per side to enhance flavor (not required for crockpot).

2. Add to crockpot

  1. Place sliced peppers, onion, and garlic at the bottom of the crockpot.
  2. Add beef on top.

3. Make the sauce

  1. In a small bowl, combine beef broth, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, and sesame oil.
  2. Pour over beef and vegetables.

4. Cook

  1. Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until beef is tender and flavors meld.

5. Serve

  • Spoon pepper steak over cooked rice.
  • Optional: garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds.
