Apple pie

Here’s a classic, flaky Apple Pie recipe with a buttery crust and perfectly spiced filling — just like homemade should taste.


🥧 Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients

For the crust (double crust)

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 6–8 tablespoons ice water

(Shortcut: Use 2 store-bought pie crusts if preferred.)


For the filling

  • 6–7 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or mix), peeled & sliced
  • ¾ cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or cornstarch)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for dotting)

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the crust

  1. Mix flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add ice water 1 tablespoon at a time until dough comes together.
  4. Divide into two discs, wrap, and chill 30–60 minutes.

2️⃣ Prepare the filling

  1. Toss sliced apples with sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla.
  2. Let sit 10–15 minutes to release juices.

3️⃣ Assemble the pie

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out one dough disc and place into a 9-inch pie dish.
  3. Add apple filling evenly.
  4. Dot with small pieces of butter.
  5. Roll out second crust and place on top.
  6. Seal edges and crimp.
  7. Cut slits for steam vents (or make a lattice top).

Optional: Brush with egg wash and sprinkle sugar on top.


4️⃣ Bake

  • Bake 45–55 minutes until crust is golden and filling bubbles.
  • If edges brown too quickly, cover with foil.

Cool at least 2 hours before slicing (helps filling set).
