Potato candy

Posted on February 5, 2026 by Admin

Absolutely! Here’s a classic, simple potato candy recipe—soft, sweet, and surprisingly delicious. This is a traditional treat that uses mashed potato as a base to make the candy creamy.

Potato Candy Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 medium potato (about 1/2 cup mashed)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (or more, for rolling/filling)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Potato
    • Peel and boil the potato until soft.
    • Mash thoroughly, making sure there are no lumps.
    • Let it cool completely.
  2. Make the Candy Dough
    • Mix the mashed potato with powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
    • Knead until it forms a smooth, pliable dough.
    • Add a little more sugar if it’s sticky.
  3. Roll Out the Dough
    • Sprinkle powdered sugar on your work surface.
    • Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.
  4. Add the Filling
    • Spread a thin layer of peanut butter evenly over the rolled dough.
  5. Roll Up the Candy
    • Carefully roll the dough into a log (like a jelly roll).
    • Slice into 1/2–1 inch pieces.
  6. Optional Decoration
    • Roll in powdered sugar for a pretty finish.
  7. Serve & Store
    • Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.

Tips

  • Make sure the potato is completely cooled; warm potato will make the sugar melt and the dough sticky.
  • You can substitute peanut butter with Nutella, chocolate spread, or jam for different flavors.
  • Roll gently to avoid cracks.

If you want, I can also give a “No-Cook Potato Candy Version” that’s even easier and ready in 20 minutes, perfect for a quick sweet treat.

Do you want me to share that version too?
