Here’s a classic Southern American Soul Food Platter you can make at home — crispy, savory, comforting, and full of flavor 🍗🥬🍞


🍽️ Southern Soul Food Platter

What’s Included:

  • 🍗 Crispy Fried Chicken
  • 🥬 Collard Greens
  • 🧀 Baked Mac & Cheese
  • 🍞 Buttermilk Cornbread

You can serve everything together for a true Southern-style feast.


🍗 Crispy Southern Fried Chicken

Ingredients

  • 8 chicken pieces (legs, thighs, breasts, wings)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Marinate chicken in buttermilk (at least 4 hours or overnight).
  2. Mix flour with seasonings.
  3. Dredge chicken in seasoned flour.
  4. Fry at 350°F (175°C) for 12–15 minutes until golden and internal temp reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. Drain on paper towels.

🥬 Southern Collard Greens

Ingredients

  • 2 bunches collard greens (chopped)
  • 1 smoked turkey leg or ham hock
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Sauté onion and garlic.
  2. Add smoked meat and broth.
  3. Add greens and simmer covered 45–60 minutes until tender.
  4. Adjust seasoning.

🧀 Baked Mac & Cheese

Ingredients

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (cooked)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar
  • 1 cup mozzarella
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • Salt & pepper

Instructions

  1. Melt butter, stir in flour (make roux).
  2. Slowly whisk in milk until thick.
  3. Add cheese and stir until melted.
  4. Combine with pasta.
  5. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes until bubbly.

🍞 Buttermilk Cornbread

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ cup sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients.
  2. Stir in wet ingredients.
  3. Pour into greased pan.
  4. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes.

🍴 Serve It Like This
